@mawr@plush.city If it wasn't illegal then pirating the songs and supporting the creator in other ways would be better for music preservation, you could listen to music in internet blackouts and you don't have to support billiionaires financially to do it, if it wasnt illegal that is legality equals morality as we all know

@mawr@plush.city Creators are more responsible here as they have the option to host elsewhere like https://joinfediverse.wiki/Funkwhale making excuses as to why they have to post to spotify or youtube is just profiting off of the same decisions we're criticising those companies for. There is room for nuance here when it comes to self preservation at a certain point it becomes the responsibility of capitalists that hoard the necessities of life but maybe theres a middle ground that slowly transitions away from big tech by crossposting to fediverse and accepting donations rather than being totally reliant on ad revenue, same argument applies to youtubers
