Imagine telling someone about the dangers of big tech and data brokers for 2 years, while simultaneously mentioning Pegasus and 1984, then being called "paranoid" or being dismissed with "It's not that serious." Now imagine that person coming up to you years later and asking, "Have you heard about Pegasus?" seeking to tell you some new information they are just hearing for the first time, apparently. Instant rage bait, though unintentional. People only listen to distant strangers.
