Just don't tighten the lug nuts with the impact!

@FritzAdalis@infosec.exchange My impact (DCF921) has a mode which tightens until the first impact, then stops until you release the trigger. It’s great for tightening lugs (this car was an Audi, which has lug bolts rather than nuts). I start them by hand to make sure they’re not going to cross-thread, run them down slowly with the impact, punch with the impact until it stops (~40 foot-pounds), then hand-finish with a torque wrench. The same mode is super nice for removing bolts. It gives you full-speed-full-power removal until impacting *stops*, then it limits speed, so the fastener is nice and controlled after it’s loosened.
