I'm about a third of the way through the hobbit book (I know, I'm a painfully slow reader, but in my defense I'm reading other stuff as well). So I decided to (re)watch teh movies in parallel. It's interesting how different the movies are compared to the book. The book is relatively short and has a children's book vibe, while the movie is more dark and serious. Events are also kinda out of order so far.
