@neauoire@merveilles.town Exactly what happened. The boat has been docked here for 10 days, it's a-- how do you say port à sec? It's even the-largest-in-Europe says the brochure, there are currently around a thousand boats. Astragale is a bit off to the side, in a corner where there isn't much people around. The dock workers did what they could when they noticed what was going on, they helped but they arrived once the damage had already been done :/

I know of two that won't let their workers do anything in this situation due to risk for life and limb and probably also due to risk of liability claims (from either the boat owner or the worker when they get hurt). So the nearby liveaboards (us in several cases) get to do it. Can't sleep anyways when a sail is flogging itself to death. Once I climbed onto such a boat and found the mechanic was already on deck. Marina had called the owner, who called the mechanic who had rushed out in flip flops, thin shirt and short pyjama-pants in a winter storm. Unfortunately he was a power boat guy and didn't know what to do, so was glad for the help 😆 Sail saved. Mechanic got paid extra for his hypothermia, we got a dinner, which was nice.
