@mikebabcock@floss.social I think this is reasonable, too. I actually probably would have mentioned it in my original post if I didn't anticipate some pushback about the merits of proprietary code in business dealings. Not really my area of expertise either, but I feel like at least a free download of the software would ensure people could preserve the software & temper concerns about reverse engineering new versions of software, I guess. It should be considered the bare minimum, yet is so far from the norm

@rootcompute@mastodon.social when you realize that Copyright exists to make more art available to the public domain (yes, that's how its phrased), its amazing to me that we haven't similarly required shortening the period for software protections. After all 125 years after the death of the author the hardware a given piece of software was written for won't likely even make sense to keep around.
