Desktop, sure. On mobile, that's not how syncing works, since it doesn't spend much time on background proocesses or filesystem events. You need to talk to the Dropbox (or other sync service) API to sync reliably.
What I use currently is a mix of Editorial (dropbox markdown editor with Python scripting), desktop text editor, & sometimes OmniOutliner, which I should make more use of.
