the answer is to have the paywall handled by a third party, and you pay per article read, not give all your money to one publication. yes this has problems too, but at least you can read the one piece per year from an out of town news org that touches on something you need/want to know about.

@davew@mastodon.social @paulknightly@mstdn.social and that third party should be your own bank. we should decide how much we can give per month and our apps should tell our bank how much time we spent with each item and then divvy up and distribute the money at the end of the month. with all media decentralized ala podcasting and attention democratically determined via fedi boosts. #PublicPatron #DemocracyOfReach
