The compact tabs layout in Safari 26 (running on Sequoia anyway) has a bug where you cannot close a tab with the mouse cursor. Hovering over an inactive tab does not display the close button, and even when the close button is exposed on an active tab, clicking it does nothing. Everything seems to work as expected in the separate tab layout style. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
