@aleen@wandering.shop Which is kind of nuts. Assuming that we can copy a consciousness, it's just that - a copy. It's not _them_. If consciousness if just the emergent property of a bunch of neurons, then it's not separable _from_ those neurons. Even if we get perfect brain/machine interface, it won't be a shared consciousness - at _best_ it would be two synced conciousnessses. And if you assume that it's something distinct from that emergent property, and veer into the territory of a soul – why would it be something that could ensoul a machine? I'm willing to be believe that we may _someday_ be able to create machines that can learn and think. I'm willing to believe that we may be able to capture, record, and transfer memories. I'm even willing to believe that we could create an artificial intelligence that retains a person's memory and personality. But it won't be them - it'll be something else.
