@evdelen@mstdn.ca @Aurora_Bee@deadinsi.de That's an extremely niche edge case solution for a very specific problem stemming from the need to keep ancient technology working, namely iron tunnels. It's not even used on the whole London underground system.
Mainline rail with catenary uses the rails as ground. That's just a given.
