The “gotcha!” level of cynicism in American discourse that writes off good policy with good intentions: 1. as being bad for having (any) unintended bad consequences 2. as being bad due to being supposedly an instance of regulatory capture in the vested interests of another party is going to prevent any material recovery over any span of time. (Commentary on the story arch of the locale and its people spanning back to my adolescence. Too fucking cynical to survive.)
