With the evolution of batteries, it looks as though internal combustion engines will be relegated to some pretty narrow niches - if not supplanted entirely. But there's something about them that EVs can never really replace, and it doesn't seem to even have a name. Internal Combustion Engines are "alive" in a way that electric motors can never be. > That's just how you perceive it, human Don't care. It's our world, technology should exist on our terms. Even if electric motors and batteries win every race, (video) is something they can never really do (unless through a pathetic bunch of fake technological theater).

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz so you're saying ICEs will be the "vinyl just sounds warmer" of engines

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz Needless romantization of flawed, outdated technology we've grown past. It'd be a bit like saying "90s computers were more alive because they had super loud fans and hard drive clicks" or "VHS was more alive because of the wow effect" In fact, this video gave me huge Ren Faire and "millennial burger joint" vibes.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz It's an aesthetic, like steam punk but real.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz EVs totally suck at long distance long haul heavy road transport. Hydrogen ICE is far superior and more efficient than either battery or HFC in that sector. Also the claims about battery tech are over hyped. Batteries have always sucked and still do, except for atomic batteries.
