IRC, some unwritten rules
When you enter a channel, greet everyone. If you don't, someone might get offended.
When accessing a channel for the first time, ask the users there to give you some piece of advice. Chat users are always very available for "newbie" questions. (Always. Very. Available.)

Ok, as an intro manual for kids, it's actually not that bad! The technical parts in particular are very complete (even bauds per seconds are mentioned!), given the target audience. The most glaring flaw, which sadly is a pretty big one: There isn't the slightest mention on the topic of privacy (e.g., don't tell your new internet friends your real name, address, where you go to school). Simpler times, indeed. /thread 🧵
