@josh@masto.byrd.ws The arguments made here about access to information have some merit. But there’s more to it. It’s also (much more, I believe) the democratization of publishing. It used to be hard to get your ideas out there because there were gatekeepers who would reject the stupid, the crazy, & the poorly written. Now you can get your $#!+ out there despite being all three.

  • @josh@masto.byrd.ws Proverbs 22:6 is true when talking about truth. Sadly, it is also true when talking about racism, classism, fascism, etc. Train them as children to be wrong-headed in any way, and they'll tend to still think that way when they're old. Give them access to un-gate-kept other stupidity and the result is the society that we now see all around us.

  • @josh@masto.byrd.ws Oh, and now there's #ChatGPT & other #LLM (what ignorant people, i.e. CEOs, call #AI ). You can now take {shit-idea} and feed it to an LLM & tell it to write a convincing article, post, email, YouTube short, whatever the F you want, "and make {shit-idea} sound reasonable". If democratized publishing is a forest fire of bad info, this LLM craze is air-drops of napalm.
