is it really that all the alternatives are worse than twitter? i never used twitter but mastodon/miskey seem pretty feature rich, especially with the right client. i assumed that the reason so many people did not switch is network effect and unwillingness to change habits

That is indeed the case. If you’re considering Mastodon try Wafrn. Its an open source social network that interacts with all Mastodon peeps like normal as well as bridging to and from Bluesky if you want. So you can interact with BSky and Fediverse accounts all from one place. Good shit. Plus its one of the few social media platforms (even on the Fediverse) that has a STRICT no AI policy because fuck that shit.

I’ve heard that for people who used Twitter as a news feed, Threads’ and Buesky’s algorithms just aren’t as good.
