@RonJeffries@mastodon.social IMHO the code generation part was already very close to not be bottleneck before the AI “revolution”. In my last job, while executives were trying to force us to use AI (it was the beginning of it), there were already a lot of other bottlenecks and obstacles to production that had nothing to do with writing code. And the metrics used by executives to evaluate people were already favouring writing a lot of unreliable code. I don’t like the proposed solutions, but to be honest, do we really need that much code to begin with? Are we producing any value? An infinite speed car production would end up only producing waste. The same is true for a farm producing an infinite amount of food. A lot of the software industry output feels like waste to me. The tech industry seems unable to find ways to get money from traditional software and have engaged in increasingly fraudulent or unethical ways to get money. The problem of the software industry is not that we are producing software too slow, but the quality and the ways we are extracting values.
