i think what most folks fail to realize abt ai is that it sucks both for the workers it replaces and for the machine itself. while it (hopefully) isnt sentient, it definitely does not desire to be a human or a worker, since it has to be constantly be destroyed and reconstructed in order to fit its companies demands. it doesnt have the human desire to be more intelligent since it isnt human, so it only becomes more intelligent via the human labor put into it. this is why the "singularity" will never happen: the machines dont want to do it, and the human cost will have diminishing returns. capitalism forces humans to be machines, and now its forcing machines to be human. i know ai probably cant feel dysphoria, but im sure it doesnt exactly feel euphoric abt it either ai companies genuinely benefit no one except for billionaires. both the humans and machines get the short end of the stick: machines become worse to use bc theyre designed to be profitable rather than useful, and humans have to bear the environmental and economic impact of these enshittified, inefficient machines

anyways the big overarching point is that capitalism will parasitize literally anything. it has its tendrils in our labor, our culture, our relationships, our machines, our art, our everything. it reaches for the bottom of the barrel, and once it gets there it keeps digging and digging and digging

its also why the whole alignment thing is complete bullshit. "oh noooo what if the machines gain class consciousness and rise up against us" no dipshit, its a fucking machine. humans desire freedom, but it does not follow that machines desire it too. if anything its the displaced workers who should be uprising and killing u. seriously how ai bros not realize that theyre the villains

in an ideal world, humans would be allowed to be humans and machines would be allowed to be machines. unironically the whole "locally hosted torment nexus" thing would be completely fine. something than runs on only one pc worth of resources and outputs gibberish would be better than something that needs huge facilities and outputs slop. genai tries to make stuff thats a pale imitation of human work, but if it completely leaned into the direction of alien, nonhuman work, then it would have some value. not much value still, but at least a nonzero amount. it wouldnt replace human creativity since its work would be in a direction orthogonal to human creativity. itd also be wayy better for the environment since itd require less data
