are you looking to get a phone at this stage? then skip that one and go for a Poco F1 or Oneplus 6/6T. those run the way more powerful SDM845, have faster storage, available in 6 or 8 GB RAM, and most important, have the widest suport for other linuxes, postmarketOS and mobian, as well as UT. prices should be in the same ballpark, as all of those are close to 10 years old; if you can choose, F1 can be opened way easier for battery replacement. those two run native mainline linux whereas UT runs on Halium (that’s like android + linux in a VM). also !linuxphones@lemmy.ml

thanks! curiously the poco f1 isn’t even listed on the ubuntu page… only the m2 and the x3. where can i get this information from?

Since Poco F1 is made by Xiaomi, shouldn’t it need unlocking with their not even hard-to-find, but also a half-working program which requires, and i am resorting to bullet points for emphasis: a cloud account with your phone number linked simcard of said number inserted (and i guess also mobile data active but not sure) turning sync of sms and contacts and find my device on, probably not very wished of if you consider where that information ends up a waiting period sometimes reaching almost a month successful operation of Xiaomi’s servers which you have no influence on their operation of during said waiting period keeping simcard and sync features enabled during said period to allow the device to heartbeat xiaomi’s servers to not reset the period which with latest phones doesn’t even seem to be planned to be working in the future, with the arrival of “HyperOS”? i am aware that some very old devices have a 0 waiting period, but not sure with this device? with personal experience, if you buy them refurbished (in my case that was a redmi note 10 pro) unlocking the bootloader just doesn’t seem to even be possible (something with serial numbers? as the motherboard was likely replaced). i mean, personal anecdotal experience, but shows the fragility and risk of the systen they set up, so that it just doesn’t seem to ve worth buying them anymore…
