@scarlet@plush.city I think it was in 1986, I was listening to NPR and there was a report about Denmark. They interviewed a well-to-do Danish woman who said, “It’s fair that I pay more for childcare than my neighbour does, because I have a higher income.” I had never heard anyone in the US say anything like that. That was when I started to think that another life was possible, elsewhere.
I left in 2000 and have always been glad I did. If I’d known more about the job market and work permits and that sort of thing, I might have made a rational plan, studied different things at university, and left sooner, but I'm glad things worked out the way they did.
