@cyannevdh and I made a fun little curiosa display for Come Together, a performance & art gathering at Frascati in Amsterdam. We used the invite to experiment with CMYK lithophane 3D printing. We were also deeply inspired by @jwn 's talk at 39C3 on dirty data and how words, species and topics disappear from AI through heuristic dataset cleaning methods. 👀Watch it here: https://media.ccc.de/v/39c3-a-media-almost-archaeology-on-data-that-is-too-dirty-for-ai Through this filtration, jiawen mentioned even animals and plants with naughty names fall victim. So... can we call this a linguistic extinction event? Here's to the Cabbage Bastard, Dik Dik and Cockchafer 🥂 Conceptually we saw a link with mineral extraction methods such as lithium mining, where unimaginable amounts of water are needed to slowly filter out lithium. Visually it's inspired by salty and oxidizing landscapes, neatly arranged in offset rectangles.
