Didn’t know the word.
It stems from Japan and looked like this:
US: why not put a gas grill in the middle?

I think in the U.S.A. it is usually the latter nowadays, where a cook also preps dishes for you? With a grill plate in the middle made out of sheet metal. The former is traditionally japanese

The one in the US is based on teppanyaki. You sit at a table with a large metal griddle while someone cooks for you in a very performative way. Usually squirting sake in your mouth and shooting fire out of onions.
