@Ivor@mstdn.social In modern times barite is mostly used for drilling mud. What was the historic use for this? Was it just waste from the galena mining?

@Thorium@social.linux.pizza it was often found along with the lead and zinc ores that were the main target for mining. Apart from drilling mud, often used as a filler in paint, plastic and paper industries.
