They think it will be worse than the current status quo for them. Doesn't matter what history says. Just ask the Mohawks originally from NY what they think of Québec independence. Doesn't matter that they aren't on their historical lands lol, they have opinions and are legally entitled to live there by Canada so they will defend that regardless of historical facts.
