@shtrom@piaille.fr @leechindustries@zeroes.ca We have to STOP just thinking about covid and think about respiratory diseases in general. They are each equally dangerous now unlike in the past. That period I mentioned is the most ideal time to get the most bang for your buck out of masks. Becuase alpha and delta were so damaging, they think its all powerful compared to the flu, that is no longer the case with covid, they are equally damaging thankfully. In fact, if you noticed, the longer covid goes on, the longer it starts matching flu infection rate by time of year. This is due to the self-innoculating effect covid has on the population, and after enough cycles, appears to be falling into a predictable pattern, likely because flu seasons makes the body more sucepable to covid acting as co-morbidity to infection. Its mortality and morbidity appears to be dropping by roughly 25-30% every year as your chart shows. I masked religiously up until last year when the data came back about omicron and long covid being on par with the flu if not slightly less damaging, and the case numbers reach a record low. The US at least never masked prior to this and we are down to pre-pandemic respiratory diseases. Masking during flu seasons is a massive step up from where the US was. If you had friends or family with health issues you should also mask and test religiously. Otherwise I don't statistically see how masking if you don't will have any clear benefit to people with those disabilities. With n-95 and kn-95 masks now capable of blocking and actually protecting yourself from virus, unlike when were were using cloth or surgical masks where they only worked if you wore them to protect others, people with disabilities should be perfectly fine wearing them and still be safe. Masking during flu season will reduce the spread to well... idiots who refuse to vaccinate which makes up most of the covid deaths at this point. Or people who refuse to mask or test when they go visit the vulnerable. Masking all the time forever appears to be what this person is advocating for and perhaps I don't understand them. But there is pretty much no statistical benefit for anyone to do that, even to those with disabilities, beyond what I mentioned in the initial response.
