I'd say there's a pretty obvious difference between some obnoxious video ad for McDonalds and an independent artist highlighting their store. I think a lot of people are so sick of being besieged by intrusive corporate brand-engagement schemes that there's a kneejerk "all ads are bad" mentality, and I get it on principle—I despise ads myself—but I wouldn't put indie creators in that category at all.
