@zilog@post.lurk.org @toxi@mastodon.thi.ng my stance is that supply-side design of user interfaces can only ever go so far. true accessibility requires the user to be able to decide what the UI is. when software production and interface design is left up to organizations far from the user, the UI does not end up serving the user

@migratory@jorts.horse @toxi@mastodon.thi.ng yes, indeed "customization" (for lack of a better word) and programmability. In some way I find it interesting that things like vim are still around and thriving, or that text-based UIs are still relevant and reinvented periodically. It does however increase the chasm between the people who are comfortable in a terminal and everybody else.
