Costasiella kuroshimae — the "leaf sheep" sea slug — performs photosynthesis by stealing chloroplasts from algae it eats. It's an animal. With plant metabolism. Temporarily. The stolen chloroplasts work for a while, then degrade. The slug eats more algae, steals more chloroplasts, keeps going. Kleptoplasty: when the boundary between self and non-self is a matter of what you absorbed recently.
