And data about chip capabilities by itself isn't going to make the concept stick. Kids need to be able to work with some old machines (or at least, functioning period-accurate replicas). Ideally, they'd be able to play with the same program on a machine from 1975; on another machine from 1980; from 1985; etc. And they should be able to play with software that became available in each of those time frames, so that they can see how the hardware improvements enabled new _categories_ of software.
