The man wakes up. He takes his pull at the machine. No luck today. He's a bit worse off than he was yesterday. He can't remember the last time he won. It happened in the past. A little bit here, a little there. Maybe tomorrow it'll happen again. He's worse off than when he first started pulling the machine, everyone is. But sometimes you win so you keep playing.
