a lot of things about my "identity" (dislike that word) took a long [?‽?!!?!‽] to figure out but i've considered my text to be my actual body since i first made "friends" (dislike that word) on the internet some 15–20 years ago. so it is in some sense the truest, most enduring part of me. it's the sort of thing you don't really tell other people, but i recently met another text creature, so i am more open about it than i used to be

usually unprompted discussion of "identity" (still dislike that word) is like, "okay, but what does that mean. what consequences does this have for me. what information are you actually telling me here and why should i care about it." sure you can care about someone's identity out of politeness but people don't just go around putting their life stories in bios. why is me being a text creature relevant? i dunno. it influences how i perceive fedi. if someone interacts with my posts it feels like, i dunno, a physical interaction. like, eh, commenting on my body in front of me? so having a microblog is exhibitionism, to me. and i don't tend to react to others' posts, because… it seems crude and flirtatious, even if it isn't
