@noodles@social.earth.li That's possible, but I feel like there was more involved than solely having an account (I had one at the time, so that probably would not have registered with me).
Like (conjecturing here), perhaps, you couldn't cancel one without canceling the other, or you have to have the same username/realname/metadata, or they're otherwise somehow deep-linked....
It remains a puzzle,

@n8@mastodon.social That _was_ (probably still is?) the case - your Instagram username is your Threads username as they're backed by the same auth mechanism (or were). I think at the start you couldn't delete Instagram without losing Threads, but that got a bit separated out.
