@tessaracht@kitty.town Yeah like if I weren't already a confirmed mortalist (which I imagine would be a real term in an immortal society lol, maybe even a derogatory term in the mouths of opponents — but considered more neutral than REALLY derogatory terms like "death worshipers" and "corpse cultists"), I imagine growing up in a society of immortals might well turn me that way since I imagine such a society — and this may be my own bias talking — would be stultifyingly conservative and backward-looking. Like the sheer boredom would off me lol. And the problems would only be magnified if access to or the quality of immortality depends on social and economic power, like millennia-old dictators and billionaires 😬 Now there is a power fantasy, or is that power horror... Ahahaha, I may resemble that last statement as the middle-aged child of an octogenarian parent who has always been cantankerous and stubborn, qualities that have not improved with age as his health and cognition have not. Lately I've been passing it off as, "Oh well, he won't live forever 🤷♀️ " but what if he diiiid and I'm like 😱 Current social structures are nowhere near able to handle that for sure.
