It’s because health insurance is mandatory for most of the population, and not run by private for-profit companies but on a solidarity principle. All of us working people have to pay a substantial part of our income into it. No choice. And that’s a good thing. One car accident or cancer diagnosis could ruin one otherwise. No healthy community can want that.
