@feuerrot@chaos.social thanks! that looks promising at least, I might have to end up poking around and see if I can use the sequence from there
though that datasheet does mention there being a high voltage that's needed on a pin to enable write protection, so it's also possible the pin is permanently tied down on those sticks, I doubt it though because every vendor with this chip fails to unlock, so perhaps it just needs the right command

@awooo@floofy.tech I'd expect VDD to be the pin with the capacitor, so A0 should be the one on the opposite side with connections to two vias (the second one via the resistor). Maybe one of the two vias goes to the edge connector and another one to some kind of test point on the PCB?
