@car@cloudisland.nz oh gosh a surge of nostalgia. I graduated from a hand-me-down ZX81 straight to a Spectrum Plus. Friends had the rubber-key one, but I never actually owned that model. So good though.

@essjax@m.essjax.com a lad up the road had a 16k Spectrum, and our mums were friends, so they arranged for him to come visit one evening and give our family a demo. That was me hooked. Xmas of '83 my folks bought me a 48k Spectrum, on the understanding that I had to learn to program it before I could get a joystick for it. It wasn't until decades later that I realised that, even though we weren't rich, that was a pretty amazing level of privilege.
