@Aaron@front-end.social ARIA roles are a last resort for when it is impossible to have the right semantics without them. Doing otherwise is not even convenient for the developers, since implies less readability, more complexity, more bugs, more pain. I suspect the main reason for all this bizarre piling of tech with no reason is there are too many web developers who don't seem to have a solid grasp of HTML. Even less of CSS. I get it, I get it, hammers are cool, but everyone should cool off and remember that JS is what you use when HTML and CSS are not enough. Otherwise, you are shooting your own feet.
