Mark Carney's exact quote to the Center for American Progress: "To be absolutely clear, Canada, like Mexico, like Mexico, Canada remains open to deeper integration, including option for fortress North America in selected sectors. And to be clear, those offers are on the table. "But if that route is not ultimately possible, we will invest heavily in new markets and products. We'll reward those who build buy and produce in Canada and we will build new partnerships abroad." _____ Thus, "Fortress North America" is his goal. If he can't achieve that then he will focus his energies elsewhere. But, in essence as he stated, his main goal is to make us a de facto territory of the USA. https://www.tiktok.com/@soocanadian/video/7638034974683286805?lang=en-GB #cdnpoli #canpoli #markcarney

2). It's amazing how the CBC has reported this. They focused exclusively on the second paragraph and completely ignored what he stated as his prime goal in the first paragraph.

@markgrieveson@mindly.social It could be read as simply a negotiating gambit, a false hope to get the Trumpists off the case while we strengthen out ties elsewhere, including directly with Mexico, but it does follow far too closely with his Harperite tendencies. The ‘war footing’ rhetoric has sent millions into swoons of ‘strong leadership’ worship, but I don’t trust him.
