@Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social @Harlander@writing.exchange OT (sorry Jeffrey) but I do find it really exciting how completely different "what deep learning tools do" and "how deep learning tools work" have almost nothing to do with each other. Deep learning models are such black boxes that there's fun emergent details we didn't predict at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjZofJX0v4M But order your own products. • @mikebabcock@floss.social I agree with you there. It is similar to having a student analyze a complex set of interrelated datasets and applying a model to them - sometimes even from relatively simple models come truly exciting surprises. LLMs take advantage of brute force computing and produce millions of interrelationships between words, and the black box is frankly beyond our comprehension in terms of raw magnitude of calculation. Thus it is an absolute marketing wonder that people are counting on these things to order a latte for pickup! Well, marketing genius, or relative lack of knowledge of the consumer? I would he's 20%-80% respectively. @Harlander@writing.exchange
