As I continually have people asking me, “Doug, when is your Linotype book going to be out?” I want to let everyone know that another book about the Linotype is coming out this summer!
It is written by Jeff Jarvis and we have been in contact for the past couple of years, sharing research findings, commenting on each other’s writing, and generally supporting *any* book project that tells the praises of this revolutionary machine.

@jeffjarvis@mastodon.social I have been lucky enough to read the manuscript of “Hot Type” and I agree with this short review. His book gets into some of the details that I won’t and I’m especially thrilled (as a child of Missouri, myself) that he goes deep into the fascinating history of the author Mark Twain’s failed attempt to create a compeating machine with the Linotype. Make sure you pre-order his book as I can personally vouch for his ability to make “old stories of old machines” exceptionally relevant and enjoyable for today. 2/2
