@steff@soc.femme.cat @zaire@fedi.absturztau.be On the topic of Postgres struggling performance wise, I must've been living under a rock (pun originally not intended but now it is 😄). You seem to know more than me, could you do me the favor of pointing me towards a resource you find worth recommending so that I might learn more about this topic and/or alternatives to Postgres you find mentionworthy?

@quantumsys@tech.lgbt @zaire@fedi.absturztau.be Postgres tuning is parts art and science. In my last role, I had a great DBadmin who showed me some tricks, but nothing overly fancy. When I re-built my Synapse server, I used Tom’s guide and PGTune as a starting points. Out-of-the-box Postgress is slow and plodding, because it’s distributed generic postgresql.conf file. Typically the number of workers are too high and the memory allocations are way off for your server.
