@pino@social.cologne the problem is when you make the default case-insensitive (for whatever reason) you also impose that mode of doing things on everyone else (either by adopting the same default or by manually avoiding the issue) because otherwise things break. If the default is case-sensitive, then everyone can handle things on a UI level however they like and there's no problem.

@aesthr@wandering.shop Whether one would like it or not, but if we would declare case insensitivity as the ultimate default, and everyone would adapt to that one, we'd definitely have no problems either, right? The problems comes when you mix both approaches together. Solutions on UI level - particularly in Linux land - have the problems that there will be 10 implementations, all somewhat different, and changing over time. And the Gnome guys do sth completely bonkers. Then better leave it as it is. :)
