@firstdogonthemoon@aus.social Chernobyl and Fukushima are unfortunate accidents... although I don't think people can ever make it work if at any time they place into power deranged leaders that threaten to destroy them as if they were fragile hostages of war

    @kaito02@mastodon.social @firstdogonthemoon@aus.social Chernobyl wasn't an accident. The prototype reactor melted down. The Chernobyl disaster we all know was actually the second melt down. Reactor one melted down but not to the extent that the reactor hall was breached. The Soviet government covered up all this because the State must do no wrong. I wish people would stop using Chernobyl as a failing of nuclear power. It's a failing of an autocratic imperialist government

    @kaito02@mastodon.social @firstdogonthemoon@aus.social As I understand it, our current, high-pressure reactor design was chosen to increase bomb making for the cold war. Alternatively, molten salt reactors fail more gracefully and don't produce as much dangerous waste. China and Scandinavia are building some now.
