@firstdogonthemoon@aus.social I keep thinking the spelling should be "Chornobyl" which is present-day Ukrainian spelling… but "Chernobyl" is how it was spelt at the time the incident occurred (as part of the USSR)… so yeah, hard to know which is correct. Apparently present-day reactor designs are far less prone to the issues that affected the examples mentioned here… but I still would be leery about their use given the long lead time needed to get them up and running. Especially as other methods (*cough* renewables & storage) are actually proving to be very much viable.
