Feel like a random musing: Have been using Linux now for between 9 and 12 months. Lost track in there somewhere. First just on a spare laptop (Ubuntu) and then when I got gifted some others and also had another old unused windows orphan laptop I did some distro hoping. Vanilla OS, LM Cinnamon and XFCE, Fedora (workstation), Bazzite. And have given even briefer goes to some others, as well as distrosea. Current set up is now Debian on my #homelab server. Fedora workstation on 2 laptops that we use mostly. LM XFCE on an old school laptop for streaming purposes, and Bazzite on one other spare just to see how it goes before I switch my big boy windows desktop to it. My general takeaways, Ubuntu was fine as an intro, and I am only floating in the pretty mainstream distro space, #Fedora has been fantastic as a daily driver. zero complaints and IMO should be recommended more as a first option for folks migrating. #Gnome is my DE of choice. (I actually preferred having to relearn a bit rather than being almost windows) Yes it's perhaps too opinionated, but having hopped around a bit, with different distros defaulting to different bits of gnome tweaks and finding options that I can't do without, I prefer the stripped starting point and then having to add, as opposed to the KDE optionfest out of the box. (I thought I would find KDE more inituitive, go figure) Anyhoo, Homelabbing got me really actually working/using #linux, and it's all rather fun and delightful. Zero day kernel exploits notwithstanding. ;)
