But even more than that, I feel like many companies are missing the boat. There is an increasingly shrinking window in which your tech debt is now *incredibly* cheap to pay down.
Long-standing bugs that cost too much can be resolved by even a half-decent LLM, for like $5 of tokens. Bugs that either have too few hits to be worth addressing, are too long standing, have no internal ownership, etc. All prime targets for at *least* investigation and planning. And yet... I don't think it's happening.

I hope open-source local models keep evolving, keep shrinking to run on less RAM (we don't all have 512GB Mac Studios!), and that they catch up just enough before the rug pull happens in earnest. I also hope tech companies take literally any kind of note of the way the wind is blowing and start internally re-planning AI strategies, re-investigate the "what if it goes away/costs go up 10/100x", and start planning to extract as much value as possible now, while they still can, on the cheap.
