It's actually quite sad how the public approach to marvels of engineering like that has changed in the 90s, train stations were fully crowded to see a TGV train driving through the country because it was so big and people were excited now this year in Poland a brand-new, fully domestically made high(er) speed multi-system modern ETCS-equipped locomotive has entered service and pretty much nobody cares. even tho this is actually a really big achievement with a possibly huge export potential new Griffin200 locomotives got briefly displayed publicly in Warsaw for a day or two, which only interested train enthusiasts and yeah that's it quite dissapointing

@rail_@bark.lgbt i mean this is just a locomotive no one cares about locomotives people still get excited whenever they hear a word pendolino just because it looks like a fast train and is a "luxury"

  • @rail_@bark.lgbt I guess there needs to be something done about it - maybe bringing means of transportation and engineering in general up in schools? /gen Like even in general many are not interested in the achievements being done in that sector especially because many people are so fanatic about cars

@rail_@bark.lgbt heritage railways in the UK do kinda help with this a bit for the UK but most people don't see the tech in trains, they just see it as a way to go from A to B
