I even wonder if it'd encourage us to kind of coalesce in our use of hashtags. Like, using them at all, evolving widely-recognised sets and applying them "correctly" (i.e. not misleadingly). What with our vouched reputation being on the line, as it were.

@miblo@mas.to @rauschma@fosstodon.org @geertaarts@mastodon.green This would certainly solve the prickly issue of “I don’t want to hear news about a politician, except from the sort of person who mentions/boosts it appropriately” Remember the filter slider is so you can attenuate your feed (algorithm). You pull it down to 50 (etc) when you have time to kill. 90+ when you just want to limit to your direct follows.
