We, citizens of neoliberal societies, have fully internalised the compulsion to work, to use every minute for work or for increasing our productivity in other ways. In authoritarian societies that compulsion was externally applied with propaganda, peer pressure, fear, etc. None of that is necessary now. We are our own overseers.
