@jpaulgibson@mastodon.ie it's entirely possible to teach the technology and principles of the LLMs without actually using any of the currently existing models.
though purely within context of this back and forth, I would whole agree with you... and also not everything needs to be AI, we were doing just fine before corpos tried shoving AI into everything under the sun (and maybe even the sun, if they could).

@loganer@mastodon.social i agree … i would even strengthen your argument by saying that we should be teaching the principles. we need students to understand how these tools function.
